President Mahinda Rajapaksa will celebrate the Earth Hour 2012 at the President's palace in Kandy today.
The 6th Earth Hour will be held today from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, cabinet ministers, governors and other distinguished guests are to participate in the event.
The organizers of the event urge the public to switch off all unnecessary lights for one hour as a symbolic act to show their commitment with the world to save the planet.
Earth Hour engages hundreds of millions of people from all corners of the globe to take positive actions for the environment and celebrate their commitment with the people of the world by switching off their lights for one designated hour.
Initiated in Sydney, Australia in 2007, it has grown to become a global movement that now involves every continent across the world.
