The Jaffana District Courts today issued an order today suspending a rally which was due to be held jointly by the Tamil National Alliance & several other Tamil political parties adjacent to the Jaffna bus stand.

The Jaffna district Magistrate issued this order upon considering a petition which had been filed by the area's police.

The order also empowered police to immediately disperse of those who had gathered at the venue on this behalf.

The rally had been organised under the patronage of TNA splinter group MP Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam who currently leads the Tamil National Citizens Front.

The remonstration was organised against the illegal acquisition of land in the Northern Province, and was supported by several parties including the Democratic Peoples Front.

Yet another rally representing this cause is slated to be held in Walikamam, North tomorrow under the direction of the TNA.
