A heated situation arose as Security Force Personnel intervened to disperse employees engaged in a strike at the Hambantota Port premises.
Our correspondents stated that the employees first tried to remove the employees protesting in the dock.
2 vessels were also prevented from leaving the Port as a result of the protest.
When we inquired regarding the matter from Navy Media Spokesperson Captain Akram Alewi, he said that Officials at the Ports Authority were holding discussions with the Employees regarding their demands and the Navy had arrived at the location only upon the request of the management.
Furthermore, journalists stated that they too were attacked while reporting the incident.
However, when our news team inquired in this regard, the Navy spokesperson stated that he is not aware of such an assault as yet.
