Two persons died today after a soil embankment fell on them at a house near Balangoda Base Hospital.

The deceased persons together with several others were putting up a parapet wall near the soil embankment at the time of the accident.

One of the dead has been identified as the owner of the house and a teacher by profession.

The other person had been hired to construct the wall.

Meanwhile members of 49 families of Kottagaswatta village by the Badulla Ella road have currently been sheltered at Dova Vidyalaya after an earth slip was predicted in nearby Bolvila-kanda.

At the same time, Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri said over 1500 persons belonging to 350 families of the Nuwara Eliya district have been sheltered in temporary makeshift camps.

Meanwhile Disaster Management Center Kandy Coordinator L.A.K. Ranaweera said 1006 persons belonging to 312 families living in 4 divisional secretariats of the Kandy district have also been sheltered in 4 makeshift camps.

At the same time, several areas of the Gampaha district are also inundated due to heavy rains since last evening.

The Disaster Management Center stated that 8 spill gates of Deduru Oya have been opened due to heavy showers.

The Disaster Center also said the Puttalam Mannar road has been closed for traffic as the road at Eluwankulama is inundated.

Simultaneously, Hanguranketha Adhikarigama road and Kandy Galtenna road have been blocked for traffic after rocks and soil embankments have fallen on the road.

Meanwhile the increased water levels of Kelani, Kalu, Walawe and Nilwala rivers are gradually receding.

Chief Engineer of the Water Science Unit of the Irrigation Department J.D. Amarasekera said however the water levels of Attanagalu Oya and Maha Oya have increased thereby posing a threat of minor floods.
